Doing things a little bit different today! As you may have noticed by the title, I’m only going to be picking two props today.

Thrive’s contests for the MLB today focus on the night games, and since Saturdays in the MLB typically have a fair share of afternoon games mixed with night games, there are not as many games during the night for these contests.

If you’re filling out a lineup, you’ll notice you only need five players instead of 10, so I’m basically giving you 40% of your picks (if you trust me that is).

Below you will find two of my favorite props for today, along with a bonus tidbit as well.

Prop Pick: Kyle Seager
Over/Under 1.5 Total (Hits + Runs) – UNDER (80 Points)

Kyle Seager is currently in his 11th season with the Mariners! Not many athletes in any sport stay with one team that long, so special props to Seager for that.

Now the ugly. Well, not totally ugly, but it could get very ugly today.

Seager and the Mariners are taking on the San Diego Padres, who are sending rookie pitcher Ryan Weathers out to the mound today. Many times the opportunity to face a rookie pitcher is a juicy matchup, but Weathers is not pitching like a normal rookie.

Weathers currently has an ERA of 1.37 and a WHIP of 0.759. Both of which would place him in the top four for starting pitchers in the league, but he currently doesn’t qualify because he was mostly used as a reliever and spot-starter early in the season.

The saving grace for Seager is Weathers has only pitched four or more innings twice this year, so if he gets yanked early again, Seager might have a better chance later in the game.

Prop Pick: Kike Hernandez
Over/Under 0.5 Hits – OVER (90 Points)

New Red Sox utility man, Kike Hernandez, was in the middle of a seven game hitting streak when he was scheduled for an off day on Friday night.

In the bottom of the sixth, he was put in Center Field as a replacement. He finished the game 0 for 2 with a run scored.

Today, the Red Sox are also facing a rookie pitcher in Spencer Howard of the Phillies. Howard’s season is going much differently than the previously mentioned Weathers.

Howard has been up and down between the majors and AAA level, and was just called up again this week to make the start today.

I always want to see players succeed, but Howard hasn’t fully figured out the majors yet, and for that reason I’m siding with Hernandez and the Red Sox today.

Bonus Prop:

This is a brand new thing I’m doing for the shorter slate of games today. I’m not making a decision with this prop, but simply sharing some stats to help you decide.

Shohei Ohtani (O/U 1.5 total Hits + Runs + RBIs) is facing pitcher Chris Bassitt of the A’s. Ohtani is 1 for 12 against Bassitt with five strikeouts, a walk, and one home run. However, they have not faced each other this year yet, and last year Ohtani was recovering from Tommy John surgery.
