We’re going to pretend my picks from last Friday didn’t happen. I clearly asked Freddie Freeman not to hit a home run, and what does he do? He hits a home run in the 8th inning when they were already winning 6-1. Not cool, Freddie. Not cool.
Before I get too off topic, there are a lot of early MLB games today. Lucky for us, all the props in the contests are for the evening games only, so we have all afternoon to mull over these picks.
As is tradition, below are three of my favorite prop picks for today.
Prop Pick: Mookie Betts
O/U 1.5 Total (Hits + Runs +RBIs) – OVER (95 points)
Mookie has being doing his usual Mookie-thing so far this season. If you don’t know what that means, it means he’s playing really well.
I know it’s early in the season, but right now Mookie’s averages (batting average, on-base, slugging, and OPS) are on pace for the second best in his career. The only season he was better was his 2018 MVP season.
The Rockies are sending lefty Austin Gomber on the mound to face the Dodgers. Through two starts he’s done an OK job, but has been prone to allowing walks, which could help Mookie score some runs if he happens to be walked.
An interesting stat is Mookie has only had six plate appearances against left-handed pitchers this season. In those six plate appearances, he’s been walked three times and got out the other three.

O/U 4.5 Strikeouts – OVER (100 points)
I’m always more inclined to pick the over on props, because as the saying goes, “life is too short to bet the under.” I’m not going to pick the over every time, but in this instance I like it.
Both of Manaea’s starts this season have been against the Houston Astros. In those starts, he had exactly four strikeouts in both games.
Today, Manaea faces the Tigers, who are not quite the same as the Astros.
As a team, the Astros have struck-out the fourth fewest times so far this season. Meanwhile, the Tigers are striking out at a rate which ranks them as eleventh most.
Manaea is not much of a strikeout pitcher, but if he can get into the 5th or 6th inning, I think he’ll be able to get over 4.5 K’s against the Tigers.
Prop Pick: Andrew Benintendi

O/U 0.5 Total (RUNs + RBIs) – UNDER (110 points)
During these small slates of games, only five prop picks are needed, which means I like to take a little bit more of a gamble on at least one pick. This one is not a huge gamble, but can yield a good number of points if correct.
As of writing, the Blue Jays have not yet listed their starting pitcher for the game, but I don’t think my choice here will change.
Benintendi has had a relatively slow start to the season while only posting one RBI through 10 games. He does have five runs scored though.
His batting average is slowly climbing, but he’s still not part of runs scored for the Royals. For that reason, I’m picking the under.
