We’re one week out from Super Bowl LV! The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to repeat as champions, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to be the first team ever to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium!

Unlike my other articles where I present my favorite prop picks and fades for the contests, right now I’m only going to provide an overall preview of the Super Bowl, and some of our props and contests. Be on the lookout for my “Favorite Picks/Fades” article later in the week, along with our other writers’ takes throughout this week!

In celebration of Super Bowl LV, ThriveFantasy is offering some of their biggest contests to date including a free contest with $1,000 up for grabs!

For those of you that have played in Thrive’s single-game contests before, the Super Bowl contests are the exact same format. If you’re unfamiliar, they play the same way as other NFL contests except (surprise!) the props are only for one game!

There are a total of 20 props to choose from in the Super Bowl contests, which are evenly divided to 10 props per team. As usual, entrants must select 10 props per entry.

This also means we get some more uncommon props (shoutout to the kickers!), and players that have multiple props. For example, Tom Brady has two props available to choose: one is “Over/Under 284.5 Passing yards,” and the other is “Over/Under 2.5 Passing TDs + INTs.”

Super Bowl LV features the #1 passing offense (by yards) in the Chiefs, and the #3 scoring offense in the Bucs. Both teams can definitely score points, but it’s going to come down to which defense steps up the most.

According to Rick Gosselin of Sports Illustrated, since 2013 all Super Bowl winning teams have had a top 10 scoring defense, meaning they were among the top 10 teams in fewest points allowed. Overall, 47 of the 54 Super Bowl champions have had a top 10 scoring defense.

For the 2020 – 2021 season, the Buccaneers ranked 8th in scoring defense, which lines up perfectly with the trend of winning teams. The Chiefs meanwhile, ranked all the way down at 11th!

I’m joking obviously when I say the Chiefs rank low, but they are just outside the threshold of the last seven winning teams. Will they be able to buck the trend, or will the Buccaneers keep the current streak alive?

Hopefully a few of these stats and more will help you as you make your prop picks this week! As I mentioned, there will be a variety of other articles throughout this week leading up to the Super Bowl! Make sure to come back and check them out!
